Munich, June 12, 2019 – The OSS Association e.V. (Open Security Standards Association) is an open industry forum that aims to promote and develop global standards for security technology. The necessary work within the non-profit organisation is carried out by the members in various committees and working groups. At this year’s most recent bi-annual meeting, BlueID who joined OSS in January 2018, was elected to join the Technical Board, which oversees the working groups and ensures that the technical aspects are technically sound. Other members of the Technical Board include Uhlmann & Zacher, Dorma, Interflex, Deister, Assa Abloy, and nedap.

Simplifying communication

The access market is filled with different electronic offline locks from various manufacturers, all of which use their own proprietary methods. The OSS Association has the objective “to develop, communicate, and market standardised protocols, components, and coding, as well as the associated security-related hardware and software, within the security industry”. Standardisation is a strategic operational tool that saves time and money and ensures competitive advantages. Thus, “OSS Standard Offline” was developed as a first standard, with which locks produced by different companies all read the same authorisations from a smart card and interpret them in the same way.

“Right from the start, BlueID had the idea of standardisation for its cloud-based Access as a Service (ACaaS®) solution”, says Philipp Spangenberg, CEO of BlueID. “That’s why we are so excited to be a part of this and be active on a larger scale.”
