Baimos Technologies and Nordic Semiconductor continue successful cooperation with the Nordic nRF52

31. May 2017

Munich / Oslo / Düsseldorf, May 31st ,2017 – Nordic Semiconductor and Baimos Technologies are continuing their successful collaboration which started in 2015 with Baimos Technologies announcing at Mobile World Congress that they have programmed the BlueID security layer to fit directly into Nordic’s previous-generation of nRF51 Series of Systems-on-Chip (SoCs). Since then, many OEM hardware manufacturers have acquired the chips that enabled them to easily upgrade their products with secure mobile keys for smartphones and smartwatches from Baimos Technologies.

The BlueID security layer, provided through the BlueID SDK for C, ensures the highest level of secure offline communication and interaction between a smartphone and the Bluetooth low energy SoC to directly verify i.e. access, permissions. The system is not dependent on Internet connection and the ultra-low power chips from Nordic Semiconductor run on a button cell battery for up to three years. Access is granted or denied using a secure Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) between mobile device and embedded module in just under a second for the Nordic nRF52 Series SoC.

“We are very pleased with our successful partnership with Nordic Semiconductor and very enthusiastic about the performance of the new Nordic nRF52 Series which handles our strong crypto processes in only a few hundred milliseconds and allows the user to securely open doors in a blink of an eye. With our ready-to-go software image for the Nordic nRF52 Series we bring absolutely robust, fast, and secure BLE communication optimized for all smartphones into OEM products in only a few weeks,” said Mr Florian Schiebl, Managing Director at Baimos Technologies. “As predicted by Gartner, by 2020, there will be more than 20 billion Internet of Things devices in the world. These will require fast and uncomplicated implementations and Nordic Semiconductor brings us one step closer to achieving that with its nRF52 Series.”

The Nordic nRF52 Series is one of the smallest Bluetooth low energy SoCs to date measuring as small as 3.0 x 3.2mm (WLSCP). With an on-chip balun and a minimum of external components required, it has a minimal design footprint, plus 512kB Flash and 64kB of RAM memory on-chip in the WLCSP package option version.

This is an important breakthrough in the world of IoT – today’s Bluetooth low energy single chip designs are increasingly varied and complex and required to perform a wide range of functions. This can include digital audio processing, to FFT/FIR and security algorithms, to driving device displays and UIs. Whatever the task, nRF52 Series has it covered. Baimos Technologies is showing the device on the 31st of May 2017 in Düsseldorf at their booth at the Innosecure Congress which targets the most innovative security technologies available on the market.
